ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

This six-week workshop is designed to enrich your child's knowledge of photography; how they see the world around them and how they might capture it.

Using their own digital camera or camera phone, they will review basic technical knowlege about their digital camera or device alongside six prolific styles of photography; Scenic, Photojournalism, Portrait, Editorial, Event and Fine Art. The course includes six one hour zoom sessions and two safe field trip-style photo outings; one photo walk and one participation in a live photo session in NYC. Each week will include a workbook style review of each lesson and photo assignment to complete before the next session. The workshop also includes guest photographers, a virtual museum tour and group zoom chat. All photos and weekly reviews will be stored in a shared dedicated folder on Google Drive.

The end result will be a custom 8x8 photo book with a series of images captured and selected by the student during this workshop.

The goal is to challenge each student to push their visual curiosity and understanding of the exposure triangle (shutter speed, aperture and ISO), light, and composition through simple photography techniques. Each style of photography and assignment will introduce an authentic exercise in creating visual images that stir emotion, tell a story, capture a fleeting moment or simply encourage more fun while taking pictures.
